Wow - what a fulfilling experience, both professionally as well as personally. The keynote speakers, sessions, affinity group, wellness activities, and bonding time with fellow Burke's attendees all made it a memorable and invaluable time to connect with others as well as reflect on myself. Some of the most impactful moments were listening to the incredible life experiences of Amanda Nguyen and Nikki Giovanni, two of the inspirational keynote speakers and I will always think of Amanda's courage and her words, "Impossible is just an opinion". Sessions were led by so many educators who are passionate about their work and supporting others and I walked away with so many great resources like this folder from a session titled: "Awesome Asian and Black Solidarity Workout". Other sessions attended were around supporting DEIB work within the curriculum and I am happy to meet with anyone who is interested in hearing more about what was shared related this. The affinity group time each day was wonderful and the API group had over 700 attendees in it and I met so many people from schools across the country which was exciting and fun to connect on similarities in our experiences as well as insight from different perspectives around common issues in PWI. Time with my fellow Burke's friends was the best part of all and we were able to enjoy the San Antonio Riverwalk as some good meals together.... along with a little dancing;0! POCC is something I had no idea existed before 2 years ago and it is such a powerful experience that I see why more than one has referred to it as a time to "go back to the well" as it certainly filled my spirit and supported my work as well as personal growth.
