This year I was lucky to attend PoCC for the first time! I truly enjoyed all the keynotes and sessions I attended. Gholdy Muhammad's keynote was a powerful way to kick off the conference and love how she broke down the need to celebrate the genius of our students to truly make an impact.
Attending the LatinX Affinity group was also a highlight. I have never been in a room filled with so many people who identify as LatinX and seeing the beautiful diaspora within the Latin/Hispanic communities was moving. I wish my mom and grandmother had the opportunity I had to hear so many powerful observations and comments about moving through the world. I do wish I had the opportunity to experience a large affinity group rather than being broken into 3 rooms as well as within sub-affinity groups.
Seeing Beyonce's movie with the Burke's crew was also a dream. Seeing a black woman execute her musical and artistic vision was stunning. She harnessed groundbreaking technology, the history of the queer community, and stunning fashion to create a memorable documentation of her tour. She is an inspiration for our students as a woman who has empowered and educated herself so that she can be a true visionary.
I'm so thankful to Burkes for sending such a large group of us to PoCC so we can celebrate each other's cultures, heritage, and experiences moving through the world!
