Upper School Makery Teacher

The 2025 Fab Educators Summit was a virtual conference connecting international educators who are using digital fabrication and making in schools. I attended the following sessions: Make Together: Co-Designing Making Experiences with Teachers, Folding with Blender: Laser Cut Paper Art, Creative Coding with AI, and FabConnectHer: Empowering Females in Fab Labs
This conference was a useful window into other makerspace classroom around the world. Different teachers and educators shared projects and best practices from their experiences in the world of education. I learned a variety of things such as how to translate 3D models into 2D templates suitable for fabrication, opening up new possibilities for integrating digital design into student work. I also interacted with OpenAI, creating a joke-telling bot and customizing it's subjects and tone. There are more sessions I was unable to attend because they happened concurrently with other workshops, but the organization behind the workshop said they will be sharing out the recordings via email and possibly their YouTube channel.
I would recommend this opportunity. Any chance to stay current in your subject area and hear from accomplished teachers about their work is worth attending. Having it be virtual allowed minimal impact on my normal school duties.

I wonder if it brought up any ideas or connections to collaboration with a specific subject area or teacher. Sounds like it was a good workshop in the idea of integrating digital design into student work across various disciplines is exciting:)!
