I had the privilege of attending the 2022 conference of the International Society of Technology in Education in New Orleans. The offerings were overwhelming and there were many presentations that pertained nicely to my work. I focused on two aspects: new, innovative features/practices in my academic classes and SEL opportunities to support my work as an advisor.
Goals & Collaborations
What were your big take aways from your work/project?
Being immersed in the culture of the conference and attending different presentations of various topics was a wonderful opportunity. I was able to come away with some different ideas for Google Classroom and assessments as well Microsoft features to be incorporated into advisory/SEL work.
How does what you learned connect to your goals this year?
I am always very intentional about the goals I select for each academic year. One of my overarching goals for every year, is to be better informed and empowered with new technological practices. I make it a goal to explore, learn, master, and adopt a new tech feature every year.
How might this opportunity lead to collaboration with other faculty?
As the lead advisor to the 8th grade team, I am eager and excited to share the information I have acquired in creating a more SEL fused advisory program and activities. I also look forward to sharing some discoveries with my World Language colleagues and bringing more elements of fun and innovation to our academic program.
Would you recommend this opportunity? Why or why not?
I would most definitely recommend this opportunity to my colleagues! It has something for everyone whether it be a tech specialist/guru or the relative new comer to technology. I credit my time at Burkes in bringing me up to date with the wonderful and amazing opportunities that exist in the tech field. It has made me a better, stronger teacher and I am deeply grateful for this.
