Idea Lab Day 2--June 15th

On day 2, I finished weeding the green dot (early readers) section of the library; the next step will be to add to this collection. I pulled more books from US Library for my nonfiction project and began to change their designations in the catalog and add LS NF stickers to their spines.

I analyzed collection needs and survey results and added over 100 books to the collection based on these. I also ordered more high interest low level nonfiction books especially for K-2 learners. However, I need to reorder them from our usual vendor instead of Bellwether because of processing issues.

I then met with Yara to brainstorm collaboration ideas for 23-24. We mostly discussed kindergarten collaboration for lessons about dots, lines, shapes, and colors. We performed catalog searchers as well as added a few books to purchase to bolster these lessons. I began to think about illustrator studies and picture book biographies I could add to my current kindergarten curriculum. We also discussed a 4th grade collaboration about baking/desserts but we will need more time to flesh this out.

I got to spend a lot more time working on my ordering and my current collection on Thursday which was really nice. I look forward to my continued work this summer!

The reorganization of the library to increase accessibility of books for students is exciting and I look forward to seeing what you are able to do over the summer! It's wonderful that you're growing collections that specifically support faculty units and goals.
