Learning Center Collaboration: Books, Assessments, Research...Fun!

Assessment:

To cap off the 2023-2024 school year, the small but mighty LS Learning Center team did a deep analysis of our most recent phonics assessment data (entering, analyzing, and asking lots of questions!) to better understand a few things:

-How have our students progressed in the last two years of phonics instruction?

-What are the trends? Are there areas of strengths or weaknesses across grade levels?

-How does this phonics assessment connect to our other assessments and how are we using this information?

Though we didn't get a perfect picture or all of the answers, this led to some deeper conversations about assessment and how we use information to support students in the K-3 grades.

Literacy Research/Continued Best Practices:

Julie and I also went over the most recent (and re-confirmed) research for best practices for reading instruction and overall literacy competency. We used the EAB resources and my reading research threads and resources to refresh our knowledge and then created a mini-workshop for teachers to present this information. We decided to offer this as Burkeshop for K-4, if time permits.

Resources/Decodable Books:

Lastly, I reorganized the Learning Center decodable book library so that teachers would have easier "grab and go" access to these books and also a system to return books and keep them organized. I also ordered more books for some classrooms and updated my decodable books presentation to better reflect our new materials and how to incorporate them into K-2 instruction. 📚
