Summary of workshop/opportunity

This workshop required the participants to do a lot of individual work, based on Elena’ Aguilar’s book, The Art of Coaching (2013). It introduced participants to a variety of tools and resources to improve your coaching skills, and then practice these skills with a small group.

Summary of workshop/opportunity

The workshop went through the 11 components of executive skills (foundational and advanced) and ways to improve them in the classroom. It shared different curriculums that have been designed around explicitly teaching ef skills.

Goals & Collaborations

What were your big takeaways from your workshop or project?

We need to be more explicit in our teaching/modeling of these skills and give students time to practice the skills. Looking at all of the different areas of executive functioning skills helps to reframe the way we look at students and areas that they might be struggling in.

How does what you learned connect to your goals this year?

One of my goals this year is to look at EF curriculum and try on teaching some of the skills to either the third or fourth graders.

How might this opportunity lead to collaboration with other faculty?

I brought this PD to the SSS team. We talked about digging deeper into these skills within our team meetings and hopefully planning some lessons that we can introduce across the grade levels. I hope to collaboarte with the 3rd grade teaching team on this as well.

Would you recommend this opportunity?

Yes
