Lower School Art and Makery discussed collaborations for next year. Our main focus was on our joint 4th Grade Identity Project. The theme we selected for next year was Skateboards & Courageous Women Artists. Students will select one artist from Rachel Ignotofsky's book Women in Art: 50 Fearless Creatives who Inspired the World to research and inspire them in the design of a skateboard. In Makery, students will repair and repurpose old skateboards to learn about their assembly. They will construct mini skateboards to use in green screen videos doing tricks. We will invite guest speakers such as famous skateboarders and investigate tie-in's with PE. Learning to skateboard is an act of courage that students and teachers together can model a growth mindset. They will showcase their work at the Arts Festival in May.
