Jess Goldstein, Joy Cooper, and May Wong. Upper school math teachers and math specialist.
We met on August 11th and 12th at Burke's. Jess applied for us to pilot the Connected Mathematics Project's 4th edition next year as part of a trial group. We got early access to the updated curriculum and spent time looking through the materials together. We're trying to incorporate a few things into math this year: open-ended questioning, high-ceiling and low-floor tasks, differentiation, group work. We decided to try one full unit (maybe two) in 6th grade to fill in gaps in our existing curriculum as well as try something new. We're hoping to try the algebra unit with our 6th graders and the probability unit with our seventh graders this year.
Throughout the year, there will be Zoom sessions on how to best implement this curriculum. I plan to attend and be part of the professional learning community, as well as discuss with other CMP4 educators. I've joined the facebook group as well and will be providing feedback to Pearson on the units, lessons, tests, and activities that we choose to implement with our students.
