In the Idea Lab for TC Phonics, the first grade team along with Kelly Shea walked through the phonics program unit 1 and created a spread sheet for the first month of school on June 15. This work was incredibly helpful as there is so much work that will go into implementing this program along with our already existing curriculum. We are hoping this phonics program will provide important scaffolding for our students for their reading and writing throughout the school year.
Next steps, we need extra help with an expert or release time to keep planning since Tuesday PD was taken up with sorting the resources instead of allowing time to plan for the year. Would be helpful moving forward to continue to have extra time to plan as it will take more than one or two days.
I'm glad the team had some time to look at materials and consider the logistics of the new program and am happy to support the need for release time and support around implementing the new program.
