Summary of workshop/opportunity

Summer IFSEL- Institute For Social Emotional Learning

Goals & Collaborations:

-What were your big takeaways from your workshop or project?

I was most impressed by the the variety of ways in which to apply Social Emotional Learning.

Some of the biggest takeaways were the way SEL activities and real intentions can meet the students where they are. It was great to see Art, games being incorporated into to the lesson as well as team building activitites for Advisory.

-How does what you learned connect to your goals this year?

One of my goals this year is focusing on work/Life balance. I am ready to be replensihed and project an amazing year for myself and my students. I look forward to keeping things fresh every year by either adding new projects to my curriculum or tweeking and refreshing a current one but this PD has allowed me a chance to offer new lessons to Advisory and to my LATINX group, I was excited to learn some ways in which to incorporate art.

-How might this opportunity lead to collaboration with other faculty?

I am looking forward to sharing what I learned at the SEL conference with my advisory team. I think having a real goal of incorporating SEL into our advisory and the activities we plan with the kids are going to be a great way to start the year. I brought back a huge binder from IFSEL, I look forward to sharing that with my colleagues as well.

-Would you recommend this opportunity? Why or why not?

I would absolutely recommend this PD opportunity. It is a great resource for advisory or even for dealing with SEL as a teacher or parent/family. The conference and the sessions were set up in a way that you could tailor what it was you needed to focus on. There was a separation of LS and MS/HS SEL sessions which made it easy for me to go in with an Advisory mindset. I even found ways in which I would like to bring some of the tools I learned to my LATINX affinity group and to my own personal parent/child interactions.
