The Design Lab workshop with Lori Cohen, based on The PD Book (link below) was an excellent three days of learning and collaborating with Alice and Margot as well as other school leaders from other schools in the Bay Area. It was an impactful workshop in looking into the purposeful design of professional learning that accounts for brain science and best practice related to addressing the needs of adult learners and the attributes of effective professional learning. There were many resources and tools shared and I have attached a couple that are useful for anyone leading PD or any gathering of learners when you want to facilitate engaging, meaningful, and thoughtful experiences that support all learners in the room. The adult learner considerations and PD planning tips address some of the components we did a deep dive of during our time together and I am more than happy to meet with and share more resources if you are interested in facilitation skills. The rubrics provided around learning environment and ratings yourself as a facilitation in various areas that are key were an insightful exercise. As a result of this PD, and of attending with others on my team, I have already redesigned components of upcoming meetings and look forward to many continued discussions and opportunities to re examine professional learning I facilitate at Burke's. I highly recommend the PD Book (and the resources you will find in the link) and welcome the opportunity to share and explore the learning from these 3 days.
