As always, I came back from the meeting with so many great ideas. I attended a session about heritage month displays and now have access to a shared spreadsheet of book ideas for different heritage months. The presenter also shared how she hangs art on the wall done by a person whose heritage is being celebrated that month. She asks students to discuss what they see, feel, think, and wonder about the art. It would be interesting to have the art hanging around the library so students could do a gallery walk and discuss/record answers with each other (It would be interesting to try this with 3rd and 4th grade students).
Another breakout session was about creating community with the library. Suggestions:
Seasonal book swaps for faculty and staff
Notify teachers of new books
Perplexus maze at circ desk
Also at circ desk: Shredded pages in a jar–what book is it?
One a day calendar cat/dog and then a question students can answer
Whiteboard at circ desk: daily poll

I love the community creator ideas:) whiteboard at circ desk might be a fun way to poll or even gather jokes or other input from students for assemblies...
