Your role at Burke’s
I’m the IT & Education Technology Manager, responsible for supporting our digital ecosystem—from devices and infrastructure to training and strategy. My work lives at the intersection of operations, cybersecurity, and education.
When did this opportunity take place?
This workshop took place in Spring 2025 as part of my ongoing professional development around infrastructure and school-wide IT strategy.
Summary of workshop/opportunity
I attended IT Asset Management 101, a session focused on how schools can build sustainable, efficient, and secure systems for tracking their tech assets. It covered the foundations of ITAM, its direct link to cybersecurity, and why schools—especially those with tight budgets and small IT teams—benefit from streamlining these systems.
Goals & Collaborations
My goal going in was to evaluate how our school currently manages tech assets and identify ways we can improve visibility, reduce waste, and prepare for smoother refresh cycles. It also gave me tools I can use to collaborate with our operations and finance teams on forecasting and budgeting for tech in smarter, data-driven ways.
What were your big takeaways from your workshop or project?
IT asset management isn’t just a spreadsheet—it’s a strategic system that supports security, efficiency, and budgeting.
Knowing what you have, who’s using it, and where it lives is key to reducing risk and downtime.
Even simple tools can make a big difference in organization, license tracking, and device recovery.
Integrating ITAM with platforms like Google Admin or Mosyle can automate the messy stuff and save serious time.
How does what you learned connect to your goals this year?
One of my goals is to deliver a clear, actionable inventory and upgrade report for our devices. This workshop gave me the structure I needed to make that report more than just a list—it’s now a tool for making smarter decisions about repairs, replacements, and training needs.
How might this opportunity lead to collaboration with other faculty?
Having more accurate, centralized data allows me to better support teachers when it comes to device troubleshooting, classroom needs, and refresh planning. It also opens the door to co-developing workflows for onboarding new staff and managing student devices more efficiently.
How does this PD learning or experience impact your work?
This session shifted my mindset from reactive to proactive. It supported my push that ITAM is not a chore, but a core part of tech strategy. I’ve already started reviewing our inventory system and am building a plan to transition from spreadsheets to a more streamlined, integrated approach.
Would you recommend this opportunity? Why or why not?
Yes—100%! This workshop was practical, realistic, and tailored to the challenges schools actually face. It offered a clear roadmap to level up without needing a huge budget or team.
