In the spring, we received advance access of CMP materials. This summer, we met for two days to look through the student materials, teacher guide and assessments. For 6th grade, we are planning to pilot at least one unit after our rates unit. Students will extend their knowledge of rates through CMP's investigations, which have an emphasis on multiple representations. I will also look at the other units to see if I can use individual investigations or situations to complement our current units. For 7th grade, we are planning to pilot at least one unit on negative numbers. By piloting a full unit for each grade level, we will get to see what types of situations will be presented and the depth of understanding that gets developed over the course of a unit.
