The NCTM Conference took place October 24 - 27 in Washington, DC. We were able to choose from a vast array of more than 500 workshops and presentations during the conference.
My big takeaways from the conference were:
Workshop model can give you opportunities to work with small groups of students for 5th and 6th grades
The importance of spiral review and cumulative assessments beyond an end of year final
Ideas for how to incorporate financial literacy throughout the year in 7th and 8th grades
Socially relevant lessons for 8th grade
This relates to my goals this year because I want to develop meaningful lessons that incorporate algebraic concepts for my 8th grade class. I also want to share these resources with the US math team and Angelique. This conference planted seeds for our team to make changes in the upcoming months to better serve our students. I would recommend the NCTM Conference because with so many sessions from which to choose, there is something for everyone.
