Vermiculture Unit
Our kindergarten class recently piloted an exciting vermiculture unit, where we delved into the fascinating world of composting with worms. Through hands-on worm bin projects, the students learned about vermiculture, the process of using worms to convert organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. This engaging activity taught the children about the importance of recycling and sustainability and sparked their curiosity and enthusiasm for environmental stewardship. Using the rich compost produced by our worm bins, we planted our own plants both in the garden and in our classroom. The nutrient-dense compost helped our plants thrive, providing a tangible example of the benefits of vermiculture. This hands-on experience allowed the students to see the full composting cycle, from waste to growth, fostering a deeper appreciation for sustainable practices. To culminate the unit, we shared our newfound knowledge and experiences at the Lower School Assembly, inspiring other grades to adopt our worm bins. Given the success and positive impact of the project, we will continue the vermiculture unit next year.

Thank you for leading the students on an ultimate journey of organic gardening! Earth science is such a great foundation for learning.
