Prioritization Management Workshop with See Change (Kate Sheppard)

In November, I attended an hour-long virtual workshop with Kate Sheppard about tools one can employ to navigate the needs of the day as best as possible. It was a workshop full of concrete suggestions including:

-do the hard part of your day first so it gets done; keep faster, simpler tasks for later

-have 1 to do list (not several living in various places like planner, google tasks, and post-its)

-don't respond to things immediately; allow a pause

-1 touchpoint and fewer decisions

-pick the one thing on your to do list that is most impactful and focus on accomplishing that

The Design Lab: Transforming Professional Learning

This was one of the best professional development experiences I have had. Lori Cohen is a very talented facilitator and would pull the curtain back to reveal her moves. The workshop was a great mix of reflection, partner, and small group work, and I learned so much. It was terrific to attend with Fran and Margo as we think about the year ahead and as we think about Curriculum Council meetings this year. Lori provided us with an amazing workbook, and there is also a book you can purchase called The PD Book, which has a lot of this information in it as well.

In this workshop, you'll:

  • Reflect on, assess, refine, and redefine what makes professional learning and meetings transformational

  • Create conditions and new systems for adult learning

  • Design a…

Leading Curricular Change

In late June, Fran and I spent three days together in a workshop facilitated by Mike Matthews of Authentic Education. The foundation of the workshop was using the Understanding by Design framework to examine the big picture of curriculum change in schools. Fran and I decided to use this year's Curriculum Council work as our "unit".

For those of you who know me as an educator, you know that I am passionate about understanding by design. Starting with your end goals, or the big picture destination, is critical to guide any work and curriculum. Being able to think about and identify what success looks like allows you to create a meaningful pathway.

This experience paired nicely with another three-day workshop that Fran and I did in late July, joined by Margot, which I will also write about. We are excited about the Curriculum Council work of the year!
