Prioritization Management Workshop with See Change (Kate Sheppard)
In November, I attended an hour-long virtual workshop with Kate Sheppard about tools one can employ to navigate the needs of the day as best as possible. It was a workshop full of concrete suggestions including:
-do the hard part of your day first so it gets done; keep faster, simpler tasks for later
-have 1 to do list (not several living in various places like planner, google tasks, and post-its)
-don't respond to things immediately; allow a pause
-1 touchpoint and fewer decisions
-pick the one thing on your to do list that is most impactful and focus on accomplishing that
-create space on your calendar for anything longer than 30 minutes
...and the brain science behind these recommendations. It was validating to see that I utilize many of the practices recommended, and the new tool that I was able to walk away with was to schedule tasks that take more than 30-min in my calendar. I often let the meeting gaps in my day be the time when I get tasks done. The challenge, however, is that I can then get pulled into other things because my calendar looks "open." I've started to take space in my calendar whenever I want work time that is at least 30 minutes. It has been helpful and a practice I will keep using.
