IFSEL: Foundational SEL Workshop
Dynelle, Seneca, Anj and I attended the Institute for SEL's Foundational Workshop. Over the course of two days we learned SEL games, activities, and strategies across a wide variety of topics. Some highlights include cool off tools, conflict deescalation, win-win frameworks, and lots of instruction on how we can lead discussions to maximize the impact of our conversations. I came back from the training with a thick binder full of resources (stop by 3B anytime to check it out!) and feeling energized about the SEL work we do at Burke's. Our third grade SEL curriculum incorporates many of the IFSEL lessons so I now feel even more prepared when teaching these lessons having been trained by the curriculum creators themselves. I also expanded my professional network to include my fellow participants, who I look forward keeping in touch with as we continue implementing SEL in our classrooms. I highly recommend the IFSEL institutes and trainings, as it informed so much of my teaching each and every day.
