This yearlong professional learning opportunity was structured in a way that allowed me to develop my understanding of the components of leadership that most impact my ability as a leader and two things that stood out were empathy and storytelling. The workshop kicked off in the fall with activities that allowed our small cohort of 12 to get to know each other through empathy interviews and time together that was focused on reflection on our own approach to leadership. I've attached a few useful resources we used in doing empathy interviews as well as for crafting a TED talk and the power of storytelling. Any opportunity to collaborate with educators from other schools is so valuable as I find their different perspectives and ideas so helpful in staying flexible and open in my thinking and approach. As a part of this program, we were each matched with a partner and did a 1/2 school visit/shadow and I had the chance to see my partner in action at San Dominico School. It was a worthwhile day seeing how she interacts with faculty and staff, facilitates meetings, and stays connected to the students even during such a busy pace of day. This Leadership Fellows program was the best leadership PD I've ever done and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the leader within.
Fran- I am so glad you got to do this and would love to hear more about why it was the best PD you've every done...because I know you've done a lot! That is high praise. I will check out these resources you provided!
