It was great to have some time to look through some of the lower school reading assessments- particularly in phonics and running records. We were able to note some trends, think about areas we would like to improve, and in pqrticular, discuss ways to improve our tracking system. I also spent some time looking over two new assessments and thinking about ways in which they could support what we are already doing. As we move into our third year of TC phonics, it was helpful to look at how our students are doing and think about if this program is matching our needs.
In addition, Kelly and I spent some time analyzing the latest "science of reading" research. There has been a lot of new questioning about reading instruction in the media and I wanted to make sure I was up to date on what everyone has bene reading. We decided to put together a mini Burkeshop for faculty to give them a basic overview as well.
Overall, a lot of good work!
