Concrete Strategies for Improving School Culture for Students, Faculty/Staff, and Parents

  1. Your role at Burke's - Director of After School and Summer Programs

  2. When did this opportunity take place?

    (ONLINE); 1/20/26, 2/10/26, 3/10/26

  3. Summary of workshop/ opportunity

The workshop focused on the 3 spheres of school culture - Students, Faculty/Staff, and Parents.

  4. Goals & Collaborations:

    - What were your big takeaways from your workshop or project?

Culture change happens through pattern interruption. It takes a leader and small groups to get it started. Place has a bearing, Language, People and Timing are all influences. You also have to be willing to be uncomfortable.

Culture change is not a flawless plan, it's a new pattern repeated.

    - How does what you learned connect to your goals this year?

This training helped me to see the culture of Burke's from a bird's eye view and to feel things in common with other schools. I was given ideas on how to be an instigator in culture change in our after school department through my relationships with staff, parents and students.

    - How might this opportunity lead to collaboration with other faculty?

If we were to implement little culture change meetings, a collaboration could occur.

    - How does this PD learning or experience impact your work? It gives me positive change examples to implement.

  5. Would you recommend this opportunity?  Why or why not?

Yes and no. The workshop promised concrete strategies but it sort of glossed the surface of the problems and mostly allowed for independent planning for individual implementation.
